We all love to use our outdoor living areas through out the year but it can be difficult during winter. An effectively designed outdoor living area using louvre roof pergola naturally lends itself to good use in winter.
Below are few considerations to get your outdoor ready for winters:
–Heating: Being able to heat up an outdoor area makes it cozy and inviting. Variety of options are available in market e.g. electric heaters, fire pits, gas patio heaters. Each of these have their pros & cons. So worth taking your time to consider suitable option which works well for you.
–Rain & Wind: closed roof certainly helps in keeping the rain water out. If outdoor living area is exposed to wind and rain then blinds, or glass doors are good options. Having protection on sides can help in keeping your outdoor living area naturally warmer and dry. These are also handy for keeping those annoying mozzies out.
–Lighting: ensure the area is well lit with even distribution of light use at night. This is especially important for winter season as amount of daylight is significantly reduced. Common lighting options include flood lights and fluorescent tubes. LED strips are trending well these days.
There are variety of roof options available to suit different budgets, styles and preferences. Louvre roofs (open roof systems) are relatively new and are a great solution for cold weather in winter season. Benefits of Louvre Roof systems include:
–Adjustable louvres: allows you to close them completely to protect from cold weather in winter. You can also have them open for ventilation: letting the bbq, fire pit smoke out or simply gaze at starry night sky!
–Motorized Blinds: installed on louvre louvre pergola, patio or gazebo provides great protection from wind and rain. This allows to keep the area usable and comfortable especially warm and dry during winter.
–Lighting: LED strips across the louvre blades are a great option to evenly light up the area as well as looking great visually and aesthetically.
We, at Modern Roof utilise only high quality aluminium and engineering ensuring our louvre roofs are suitable for harsh Australian conditions. If you would like to find out more details on how they work then see our blog post on how louvre roof systems works.

Hi I have an existing pergola 4 x 4 metres attached to a house. Could you please advise if a louvred roof could be attached to this structure
Hi Susie, Sorry for the delay in getting back. It depends on the structure of your existing pergola. We can provide roof only (i.e. no legs) which can allow you to attach it to your existing pergola assuming it is structurally strong. For more details, please email to sales@modernroofs.com.au.
Thanks,
