Freestanding Pergola Design

Freestanding Pergola is the most basic and common Louvre Roof Pergola design. Depending upon the size it comes with four or six posts. Multiple Pergola units can be installed side by side for bigger areas.

Freestanding Pergola: Close to house/building

Often, customers wish to install freestanding louvre roof pergola close to the house providing an natural extension of their house. Couple of things to keep in mind:

  • Louvre Opening Clearance: Louvre Roof Pergola requires 100mm clearance above the pergola height for the louvre blades to open. For that reason, this needs to be taken into account while calculating overall height especially if you are planning to install the pergola under an eave/gutter etc.
  • If installing under eave is not possible due to height restrictions then other option is to install the louvre roof pergola inline with the eave/gutter.

Semi-attached Pergola Design

Semi-attached design allows you to attach one or two sides of the pergola, patio roof to building structures with other side supported by one or more posts.

Attaching Pergola beam to building

Pergola Beam can be directly attached to the building structure (e.g. brick or timber) provided they have been confirmed by an engineer for suitable load bearing and structural strength. We recommend consulting structural engineer for suitable fixing schedule.

Wrap around Alcove/Fireplace

Pergola Beam on the side of the building can be designed such that it can wrap around externally protruding structures like alcove.

Semi-attached Pergola: Fixing to Fascia

Often with existing houses, for various reason especially ideal height, it is desirable to attach the pergola to the fascia. Generally, metal fascia are not structural in nature so the pergola must be connected to the roof rafters.

For this purpose, common fascia brackets available from retail hardware store like Bunnings or Demak can be utilised. Additional strengthening of rafters may be required for this purpose. We recommend consulting a structural engineer for suitable recommendation & fixing schedule.

Semi-attached Pergola: Fixing to Roof (Fly over Design)

Sometimes height of house might warrant , attach the louvre roof into the roof (Fly over Design).

For this purpose, roof brackets like extenda brackets connect to wall top plate and rafter (timber frame structure behind building façade). We recommend consulting a Structural Engineer for fixing schedule.

It is best to access the roof to determine the exact location of the wall top plate for exact measurements.

Roof Only Louvre Roof Pergola Design

Building structure like alfresco, patio roof can have opening roof by installing roof only louvre roofs. This allows greater flexibility on realising your pergola, patio roof ideas.

Louvre Blades still sit inside the louvre pergola beams on all four sides which also incorporates integrated gutter on the inside on all four sides. No posts are provided for this design.
